VIDEO: Coach Graham meets the press
Charles Wulf TEMPE, Ariz. -- Coach Graham met with the media after practice on Thursday and covered a wide range of topics. Graham talked about junior college transfer J'Marcus Rhodes, who has impressed coaches in camp. Rhodes is a 6-foot, 200-pound defensive back that joined the Devils this offseason, transferring from Kilgore Junior College. He had offers from Utah, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Colorado but the four star prospect chose ASU. Graham also talked about offensive lineman Evan Goodman. Graham stated that Goodman was the most impressive offensive lineman in camp so far. He said that all the lineman have been impressive, but Goodman, the fifth year senior, has stood out. Devil backer was another topic of discussion after practice. Since Carl Bradford's 2013 season the Devils have lacked a dominant pass rusher off the edge. Graham said that JoJo Wicker, Malik Lawal, and Koron Crump have all been impressive. Coach Graham also took time to talk about the different position battles he and the rest of the coaching staff are focused on with a little over two weeks before their opener against Northern Arizona. Obviously the quarterback competition has been in the spotlight during camp, but other position battles have captured the coaching staff's attention. Graham said that there are still open competitions at quarterback, offensive line, and in the secondary. He even mentioned linebacker and defensive line as position groups that aren't set in stone. For the second day in a row Nick Ralston was a topic of post-practice interviews. Yesterday, Demario Richard and Kalen Ballage both said that Ralston is ASU's secret weapon and today, Graham said that Ralston is "exactly what a Sun Devil should be." The Devils will hold a scrimmage on Saturday that Coach Graham called "a big evaluation day for everybody."
